Marketing Tips For Dancing Schools
The triple threat of a business studies degree, professional IDTA qualifications in ballroom and Latin American dance teaching, and a passion for dance was the perfect combination for opening a dance school! I’ll never forget the day I entered the Cheshire assembly rooms, where the curtains were pulled back to reveal a beautiful sprung dance floor – a dancer’s dream!
What followed was 10 glorious years teaching over 2000 people of all ages to dance. I also brought Strictly Come Dancing to Cheshire with fantastic workshops and demonstrations by the Strictly Come Dancing Professionals, Anton Du Beke, Erin Boag, Darren Bennett, Lilia Kopylova, Vincent Simone, Flavia Cacace, Karen Hardy, James and Ola Jordan and Camilla Dallerup. The dance school enriched the health, wellbeing and the social lives of all those who attended, and continues to have a positive effect on the lives of those within the local community. Fundamental to the success of the dancing school was the love of dance and a great marketing plan!
My Top Tips For Marketing Your Dance School
1. Invest In Your Brand Image
A professional looking brand and logo goes a long way. One of the most important aspects about my dancing school was that it had a distinctive brand. I worked with a local creative agency to produce the logo and the associated artwork – it was money well spent. A simple brief, ideas and relevant inspiration was all the agency needed to create a superb logo.
2. Get A Website And Keep It Updated
Back in 2005, when I started my dancing school, websites for dance schools weren’t very common. By investing time and money in a decent website, it was easy for me to make a great first impression. The dance school website included class information, booking information, contact information, news, FAQs and also some photos from classes and events.
3. Create Social Media Accounts
Social media offers a great way to promote your dance school. Generate social handles for your dancing school, and try to secure the same handle (e.g. @DanceMarketing) across each social media profile; Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and Twitter.
4. Advertise In Local Papers and Magazines
Local newspapers and local community magazines are brilliant for raising awareness and generating new attendees. I used a combination of local newspaper ads, local community ads and features in local magazines to promote my dancing school. The inclusion of an offer was always a super incentive, and a way of inspiring people to take action!
5. Host An Open Night
Open nights are a fantastic way to offer people the chance to get a taste of your dance school experience. Attendees can meet your teachers, current students, check out the location, and even take part in a free taster session.
Websites are a fantastic tool for dance schools, but make sure that your website is optimised for mobile, e.g. your website looks just as good on a mobile screen.
